Art Rock Calgary is an off-shoot of a series of shows organized by Casey Wei in Vancouver. The premise is to give space to artists that have separate music practices and also bring our community together in a different context than the usual Gallery opening.

art rock? The Popular Esoteric is a music documentary about Vancouver, featuring performances by bands through director KC Wei’s music as public art treatment. Recorded over 4 years (2014-2018), the film follows the evolution of an underground art rock scene, celebrating the weird and beautiful practices of those who continue to rub against the grain.
This event takes place on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.
