Submissions

Deadlines and Requirements

Please refer to the Information page to learn about Stride’s mandate, and the programming criteria for each of our three exhibition spaces.  Eligibility is limited to mid-career and established artists in the Main Space, and to emerging and aspiring artists (including students) in our +15 window space.  Artists in any stage of their career (emerging through established) may apply for exhibitions in our Project Room, provided their proposal is in accord with the stated mandate for this space.

The Board of Directors meets three times per year to review submissions and make programming decisions.  Stride’s board members are all mid-career, professional, practicing artists and arts workers active in the local, regional and national contemporary art communities.  Most of our exhibitions are programmed from submissions, but from time to time artists may be approached for a studio visit, and the board of directors may solicit an exhibition as a result of this visit.  Stride does not schedule exhibitions more than one year in advance, ensuring that our programming remains flexible and responsive.

All submissions should include the following:

  • •Detailed description of proposed project or exhibition, indicating your preferred exhibition space (Main Space/Project Room/+15 Window) and a working title for the proposed exhibition.
  • •Brief, concise description of the proposed work as it will appear in the gallery space (maximum 100 words).
  • •Artist statement relevant to the proposed work
  • •Curriculum Vitae
  • •Visual documentation: no more than 20 slides or Mac-compatible images (.jpeg, RGB, 8bits) at medium to high resolution (minimum 150 dpi and 1200 pixels along the longest side, maximum 300 dpi, 10MB per image)
  • •Other visual documentation (DVD/VHS) if applicable, running time of no more than 10 minutes in total.
  • •Corresponding inventory of visual documentation indicating titles of works, size, media, and date
  • •Single copies of relevant print material (exhibition reviews, invitations, brochures etc.), maximum 3 items
  • •Self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE), in the event you wish your submission materials returned.

All submission materials should be clearly labeled with your name, complete contact information (phone number, email address, and postal address), and the working title for your proposed exhibition.  Please do not send bound submissions or presentation folders.

Stride encourages artists exhibiting at the gallery to present their practice to the community by whatever means they feel are most appropriate.  This may include artist talks or performative presentations, and gallery staff will work to arrange and accommodate these events.  Artists interested in producing a corresponding publication [link: Publications] may find support through the gallery’s ability to access special project funding, and are encouraged to seek funding or other support for such projects independently. Consistent with our policy of fostering independent developments by artists, the Stride board and staff's role is to assist artists in realizing their intentions with the means and resources available. Our goal is to provide artists with positive professional development opportunities in support of the ongoing development of their practices.
