Shelley Miller’s work romanticizes the past through her archictural and ‘decorative’ installations using domestic materials like cake frosting and aluminum pans. For THE RISE AND FALL, Miller will be constructing a false tin ceiling that will reference the style of Romanesque architecture. Each aluminum pan will be individually carved to fit within a mathematically calculated perspective drawing pattern that will produce the illusion of an ornate domed ceiling. As viewers move through the space the illusion will slowly break away.
SHELLEY MILLER graduated in 2001 from Concordia University with an MFA in Open Media; and in 1997 with a Diploma of Fine Arts from the Alberta College of Art and Design. She has exhibited her work in galleries both nationally and internationally including Dalhousie Art Gallery, Halifax, NS; Optica Gallery, Montreal, PQ; and Sanskriti Kendra Exhibition Space, New Delhi, India.
