ARTIST BIO

Born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England Oct. 10, 1920 and brought to Canmore, Canada in early 1921 by my mother to join my father who had earlier come to Canmore to work in the coal mines. Public and High School education was at Canmore. In 1939 jobs were scarce and money virtually nonexistent for University education; so I started working in the coal mines at Canmore, above and below ground, and studied accountancy by correspondence. With money saved while working and scholarship assistance it was the University of Alberta from 1946 to 1949 for a B.Comm. degree.

Around 1960 I started reading all the art books pertinent to my interests in the Calgary Libraries and commenced painting to the present time, although at times spasmodically. Doing will learn one, possibly slower than formal training, and listening to friends, accomplished artists and dealers enables one to obtain a wealth of artistic information; and so a pleasant hobby is enjoyed.
