IMPERFECTIONS travels backward along the process to question the nature of illness and the conditions from which we are healed. Many “conditions” (alternative sexual orientation, extra or deviant chromosomes, physical variations from the norm such as webbed or extra fingers, etc.) exist primarily in language. Gogarty’s paintings will examine and question models of normalcy proposed by science, as well as to seek out, cherish, and give presence to “imperfections” – the abnormalities that make growth change, adaptation and mutation possible.
AMY GOGARTY is an artist, educator and writer based in Vancouver. She received her MFA (Painting) from the University of Calgary, and taught art history, theory and ceramics history in the Liberal Studies Department of the Alberta College of Art & Design.
