Call For Submissions 2026

Stride Gallery is excited to announce our 2026 Call for Submissions!

Deadline: July 26th, 2026 @ 11:59pm MST.

This Call for Submissions offers both a studio residency and an exhibition for each selected artist.

This is an annual Call for Submissions, taking applications each Spring/Summer, and subsequently programming 4 artists each year, with their residencies beginning Fall of the following year.

Programming Philosophy & Description:

Each artist will begin with a 3-month long studio residency where they are encouraged to create, research, and experiment in any way they see fit. Through peer mentorship, staff will work alongside the artist helping them reach self-appointed goals and intentions. Whether that be support in application and grant writing, learning technical skills such as installation and strike of exhibitions, or helping them reach new networks of artists and curators to build their community.

After completing their residency, the artist will create an exhibition in our gallery space. We’ll be mentoring the artists through the process in creating an exhibition throughout their residency; this model gives artists a chance to be both in process and present their work to the community. Each exhibition will be 8-10 weeks long, and will take place directly after the end of the artists’ residency.

We also want to relay that artists are not expected to create a full exhibition in the 3-month residency; the two parts are not interlinked unless it is the artist’s intention. Exhibitions can feature old work, new work, or experiments made throughout the studio residency.

We are prioritizing local, Treaty 7 region artists in this call (We are unable to provide accommodations or living expenses for out of town artists). We are also prioritizing QTBIPOC artists, and artists from equity-seeking communities.

Details about the space:

The semi-private studio space is approximately 176 sq/ft with one window (cannot be opened). There are lockers to store valuables in, and two tables to work on. Artists are able to use the walls for displaying work.

Artists also have access to a small wood shop space (with orientation required), and various tools and hardware. There is a communal kitchen space with access to a fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, kettle and various utensils.

We will have to limit the use of clay/ceramic, aerosols, or other potentially hazardous materials due to restrictions of the building and to stay cognizant of the shared workspace/gallery. If you are unsure whether your practice is suitable for this residency, please reach out to mell@stride.ab.ca prior to applying with any details you may need clarification on.

There are two accessible, gender-neutral washrooms.
