Donald Lawrence’s work surrounds itself with the merging and appropriation of romantic attitudes towards the outdoors within our consumerist society. He considers himself to be a “romantic consumer”, with various sensibilities coming from my family background and from the culture which surrounds me. The works belonging to ROMANTIC COMMODITIES take a variety of forms, hovering between their individual autonomies and narrative associations which can be inferred from their relationships to one another.
Born in Calgary, Alberta (1963) DONALD LAWRENCE has a BFA from the University of Victoria (1986) and an MFA from York University (1988). He lives in Kamloops where he teaches in the Visual Arts program at Thompson Rivers University.
