Mathew Kabatoff is currently enrolled in his third year of painting at the Alberta College of Art and Design.
This summer Mathew Labatoff sat and watched the World Cup Soccer. Unlike other avid soccer fans, Kabatoff began to analyse these 90-minute internals in front of the television. He used the allowed 90 minutes to conjure up memories of personal achievements significant to his life. Event #1 analyses why some events are deemed important to one’s life and why other are seemingly insignificant and difficult to recall. Memory, text and the documentation of both personal and cultural events are the subjects Kabatoff uses to set up parallels and distinctions between individual memories and cultural phenomena.
