Stride Gallery is excited to announce the Main Space exhibition, Simulations!
Simulations is comprised of works that collage photographs, iconography, found objects and pseudo internet aesthetics. Emphasizing a hesitation between past and present tense, these works explore half forgotten and confabulated memories of halcyon cyberspace.
Kyle Anderson-Nguyen is a Vietnamese-Canadian artist based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, Canada). He holds a BFA in drawing from the Alberta University of the Arts. Working in painting, drawing and sculpture, his pseudo-digital source material is manipulated to channel collective memories through exploration of 2000’s internet culture. These refracted compositions evoke nostalgia while simultaneously highlighting the haunting of lost futures. At the core of Anderson-Nguyen’s practice is the idea of discovering identity through the stretched and saturated images that have dominated internet subcultures since its inception. These images, prioritizing the sharing of ideas over technicality, invite the viewer to see the digital world as an extension of reality rather than a vehicle for entertainment.
