EXHIBITION INFORMATION

SINCERITY OVERDRIVE consists of artworks, gestures, and projects which invite expanded relationships. Artist-artist, artist-community, artist-public and back again, the artists run the gamut of actively seeking meaningful connection, feeling a distinct absence of it, mocking networking structures, and revealing impromptu, open-ended encounters.

CURATOR BIO

SINCERITY OVERDRIVE is curated by Anthea Black, continuing Stride’s tradition of director-curated exhibitions, which offer the gallery director an opportunity to investigate and develop a curatorial practice.

ARTIST BIO

BRENT WADDEN was born in 1979. He graduated from NSCAD in Halifax, in 2003, and is now living and working in Berlin, Germany. Over the past few years Brent’s diverse practice has included drawing, sculpture, installation, printmaking and painting. Much of his work contains collaborative elements. Wadden has recently exhibited in many group exhibitions in Canada, United States, Spain, and Germany.

HANNAH JICKLING’s work takes form through various mediums, mostly; video, printed matter, intervention, installation, performance, textiles and photography. She spends her time between Dawson City and Toronto and has shown her work throughout Canada and the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. She works individually and collaboratively, often using everyday materials as art supplies. Some recent collaborations include a roving hair-salon project with UK artists Coral Short and Nosh Kwaljia, miscellanous snow shoveling with Yukon-based artist Valerie Salez, and a series of auction-style installations with LA-based actor Brad Pitt.

MARK SOO is an artist based in Vancouver. He is a graduate of Emily Carr institute and has exhibited nationally and internationally in New York, Manchester, Melbourne, Toronto and Vancouver.

STACEY WATSON is a Calgary-bred artist living and working in London, England. In the past she has made etchings of unlikely emergencies, miniature dioramas of fearful spaces, and photographs of atmosphere (with a particular affinity for the effects of snow and smoke). She makes films and videos in collaboration with other artists and continues to expand her practice across many media.
