A P A R T

The text can be read in multiple ways. ‘APART’, ‘A PART’, ‘PART A’.
Its meaning is made by conscious fragmentation. The fragments of objects are present, yet never complete and never true to their original function. Disfunction, paradox, and redundancy are the three tenets of “negative” meaning-making: meaning, through the process of negation one reaches knowing–meaning, in the mutilation of the existing, one both affirms and contests the known. The exhibition To Mutilate/to Create culminates into a video, sculpture and text-based installation, through which the idea of function and reason is questioned, and through simple physical interventions, convention and boundaries are questioned.
