The projet MOBILIVRE-BOOKMOBILE project is a grassroots media initiative which runs on the sweat and toil of a dedicated group of artists and community organizers based primarily in Montreal, Canada and Philadelphia, USA. Now in its fifth year, the project is an annual touring exhibition of artist books, zines, and independent publications. Traveling by way of a vintage 1959 Airstream, the BOOKMOBILE visits a variety of venues in Canada and the US including community centers, schools, libraries, festivals, artist-run centers, and galleries. A group of coordinators travel with the exhibition and facilitate a series of workshops, artist talks, and educational forums.
The BOOKMOBILE project supports the growth of independent-locally produced art and media while it strives to help these voices form a larger continental network. Over the past five years, the project has exposed thousands of visitors to a unique collection of independently produced book works.
